ATA 2012 Exhibit Hall is bigger, better than ever

By Molly Merrill, Contributing Editor

The American Telemedicine Association's 17th Annual International Meeting & Exposition is touted as the world's largest scientific gathering to focus exclusively on telemedicine – and it keeps growing.

This year is the ATA's biggest tradeshow ever. With 4,000 to 4,500 attendees expected and a sold out Exhibit Hall with more than 200 exhibitors, it's 20 percent bigger than last year, says Sandy Hung, the ATA's director of corporate relations.

Although smaller in size than last year's Exhibit Hall, "We are going to have (about 30) more exhibitors this year," she says.

The show runs from April 29 to May 1 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif.

New features for the Exhibit Hall this year, says Hung, include two new lounges – a work room for the press (Booth 780) and one in which members will be able to relax (Booth 380). Attendees will get their first chance to see the Exhibit Hall and all the exhibitors representing the who's who of telemedicine products and service providers at the Opening Reception held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 29.

Among some of the bigger exhibitors, San Diego-based Qualcomm Life (Booth 643) is showcasing its 2net Partner Ecosystem, which consists of a platform that integrates medical devices, applications and health services companies and allows them to store and share their data via cloud technology. The Qualcomm Life pavilion will feature as many as 15 companies exhibiting in it, says Hung.

Another attraction on the show floor will be a clinic held by San Francisco-based Medweb (Booth 934). The developer of Web-based, RIS/PACS, native 3D viewer, teleradiology and telemedicine solutions is holding a Telemedicine Clinic designed for military and disaster recovery applications.

"The Medweb/HP Telemedicine Clinic highlights the working relationship between partners to deliver ad-hoc continuity of care," says Hung. The clinic will also showcase how telemedicine can meet the needs of rural midwives, she says.

Another big event held in the Exhibit Hall is the Poster Presentation and Reception, which will run from 5:15-6:30 p.m. Monday, April 30. New this year, the event features 115 traditional poster board presentations and 50 digital e-posters.

Next year the ATA conference will be held May 5-7 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas.
